All clinical psychology work is collaborative and formulation-led. Formulation is a process in which the therapist and client make sense of the presenting difficulties together (considering potential links and the context these exist in). It is a shared process of meaning-making and, whilst our therapists can bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, they rarely adopt an expert position as they consider the client to be the expert of their own experience. Whilst there’s a place for diagnoses occasionally, at Verdure Psychology we believe that formulation is far more meaningful. Any consideration of diagnoses will be led by the client’s wishes and would only proceed if it were agreed that a diagnostic label would be both helpful and appropriate.
We work with young people (aged 14 and over), adults and older adults. We have a wealth of experience (both clinically and academically) working with people with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and ADHD. For example, in 2020 Dr Jenkinson published a paper in the Journal of Autism about the link between anxiety and the intolerance of uncertainty in autistic individuals and this has had close to 200 citations (other published papers referencing Dr Jenkinson’s work):
We are experienced working with people from different backgrounds and are mindful of the importance of considering aspects of difference (both visible and invisible) in terms of beliefs, power and lifestyle. These include culture, religion, gender, sexuality, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, geography, age, ability, appearance, class, education, employment and spirituality.
