Introducing Lorna

For many years I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Lorna Hunter, Family Psychotherapist. She has genuine care for the individuals and families she works with and draws upon a wealth of experience and training in order to tailor her approach to suit the needs of the people she supports. As well as empowering people to reconnect with their strengths and values, I admire how Lorna can help people recognise and improve unhelpful patterns of behaviour, whilst simultaneously supporting them to feel safe during this process. Recognising that patterns are systemic and nobody’s fault, she never takes sides. However, her desire to help does fuel her courage to have the difficult conversations when she needs to, and to highlight unhelpful patterns of interactions and communication, as they arise. Crucially, she does so without judgement or criticism, and so people working with Lorna commonly report feeling safe, cared for and supported during the process, even when this involves going deep into the storm.

In Lorna’s words:

As individuals, our life experiences are unique and personal, and influence how we show up in all aspects of our lives. Our experiences contribute to how we communicate in relationships, and how we think about ourselves and relate to those around us. Often these experiences can result in a positive view of self and fulfilling relationships, but what happens when they don’t?

A pencil sketch of therapy

When we feel emotionally overwhelmed or disconnected, we may struggle communicating with our spouses or have difficulty building meaningful relationships. We may question our worth, struggle to feel confident individually, and in our relationships, and may require external validation in order to feel worthy. So what’s the solution?

As a Family Psychotherapist, I am able to offer a safe space to explore and further understand how our personal experiences influence our mood, behaviours, connections and overall wellbeing.

I work with both individuals and couples, and together we can work to establish what approach will support a further understanding of your sense of self, and/or your relationship, and how your experiences contribute to your interactions with others.

Lorna Hunter is an associate of Verdure Psychology. This means people accessing the Verdure Psychology website can see her profile and, if they’re interested in working with her, Verdure Psychology will facilitate the initial communication process. As an associate of Verdure Psychology, Lorna shares our core values and commitment to quality. Lorna is an independent practitioner and people who wish to work with her will enter into a therapeutic agreement with her directly and so future communication, invoices, appointment scheduling etc. will be coordinated by Lorna (without the involvement of Verdure Psychology). This facilitates efficiency and ensures roles and responsibilities remain clear.

Lorna is due to start in May 2025 and a referral form will be added shortly so people can contact her.
